Attleboro Police Auction Unclaimed Bikes, Tools and More

Stolen and unclaimed items auctioned off for cash.

Going once....going twice...and SOLD to the guy in the Red Sox T-shirt! Officer Susan Boisse of the  handled her job as volunteer auctioneer with a great mix of professionalism and humor as she auctioned off approximately $1,200 worth of goods at the semi-annual Attleboro Police auction held Saturday morning at the department's vehicle garage on Union Street.

There was a little bit of everything  including  tools, clothing, a baby carriage and many  bicycles in varying condition. Some of the bikes sold for just a few dollars while a Trek mountain bike garnered much attention and sold with a final bid of $105.

"After 30 days since notification of the owner these items are eligible to be auctioned off,"  Officer Boisse said. "Most of the items were  stolen and recovered and all auction proceeds go to the city's general fund."

According to Boisse some of the clothing items were stolen and recovered from a local retail store, but couldn't be resold as new merchandise. She also warned all potential bidders at the beginning of the auction to check items carefully before bidding as all sales are cash only and with no possibility of returns.

One of the more unusual items was a Coca-Cola novelty bar stool that allegedly fell off the back of a truck and remained unclaimed. Area crime buffs may remember a gambling operation that was broken up right in downtown Attleboro a while back. Up for bid was the complete poker table set including the cards and poker chips used in that operation.

For horticulturists in the crowd, there were a few plant- growing lamps up for bid, including a rather large industrial-looking model.
