Bitter Ending for Sweet Gifts Bakery

The movers cleared away an oven, baking pans and shelves, then hauled them away to a storage facility. But more than just products disappeared from this small, family-run business. Sweat, tears and a family's dream of running a pastry/gift shop were also swept away.

Owner Patty Lamarre and her daughter Kristy Pelletier opened the downtown bakery and gift shop last year with their own start-up capital, but a depressed economy, little financial support and a have forced the owners to call it quits. 

Lamarre was clearing and cleaning out the downtown bakery Thursday afternoon and was brought to tears when she talked about the many obstacles she faced to keep the business open.
