Sturdy Memorial Hospital will hold a Blood Drive and “Be The Match” Bone Marrow Registry in partnership with the Rhode Island Blood Center, on Thursday, June 12 from 9am – 4pm in the Hospital Auditorium.
Each blood donation you make can treat up to three people and will help alleviate the region’s seasonal blood shortage.
To register to become a bone marrow donor and have your information in the “Be The Match” registry, you must provide a cheek swab sample, and fill out a consent form, which consists of basic contact information, and medical evaluation questions. The “Be The Match” Registry services patients in need of a marrow transplant who do not have a matching donor in their family. These patients need to find a matching unrelated donor that is willing to donate stem cells on their behalf.
Raffles and refreshments will be provided. To register, call the Hospital Information Desk at 508-236-8555. For additional information on blood or marrow donation, please visit www.ribc.org.
