Brown Water in the 'Boro Caused By Water Main Break (VIDEO)
The City of Attleboro Water Dept. is dealing with a second water main break today that has caused water in some neighborhoods to turn brown.
The City of Attleboro Dept. is encouragaging residents to pick up some bottled water today, after two water main breaks in the city have caused resident's water to brown.
Residents do not need to boil the water because there aren't any health issues with the water, according to the water department. The brown coloring comes from the iron and magenize that collects in pipes. When a water main breaks the force of the break and speed of the water flushing through the pipe picks up the elements, which results in brown water.
One break at James and Major Streets has been repaired, while a second "extensive" break on Holden and Bank Streets will begin to be repaired around 10 a.m. and is expected to take a "good portion of the day," according to the water department.
