An Attleboro city councilor has proposed a change in city ordinances to allow drivers to park their buses at their homes between shifts.
The parking of buses and other large commercial vehicles in residential areas is currently banned because buses have been frequently parked for several hours every day and sometimes overnight in the past.
The proposal was spearheaded by City Councilor Heather Porreca. She is a school bus driver in her private life.

According to The Sun Chronicle, the plan would allow buses serving city schools to park in residential areas from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Monday to Friday during the school year. Just one bus per property would be allowed and it would have to be parked at least 15 feet from the street, in a driveway or on the driver’s property.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at City Hall.
