Coast Concerts Season 9 kicks off this week with an all-Beethoven recital
performed by concert pianist Kirk Whipple, the executive director of the summer
music festival.
Whipple will perform four of the master’s great sonatas: Opus 2 #3 in C Major,
Opus 13 in C Minor (Pathetique), Opus 27 #2 in C Sharp Minor (Moonlight) and
Opus 28 (Pastorale).
Located in two exciting settings – a magnificent church sanctuary and an
elegant bank lobby after hours - Murray Unitarian Universalist Church in
Attleboro and Eastern Bank in Wareham offer listeners wonderful spaces to enjoy
great acoustic concerts. Whipple will perform on expertly maintained
instruments, a 7-foot Mason & Hamlin grand piano in Attleboro and a Yamaha
C3 grand piano in Wareham.

Whipple and his wife Marilyn Morales tour the world performing in a wide
variety of ensembles and concert settings. Founders and directors of Cranberry
Coast Concerts, the duo also performs with The United Nations Piano Quartet and
The Unconservatory Festival Orchestra. As a soloist, Whipple has performed in
solo recitals and with orchestras and ensembles throughout the U.S. and abroad.
His teachers have included John Browning, Roy Bogas, W. A. Mathieu, Mark Wetch
and Kwaku Daddy. Distinctions include 2nd prize in the 2013 A.G. Bakhchiev
International Competition for Piano Ensembles, Composers Division, for his
original work “Fives ~ Concerto for 2 pianos / 8 hands,” performed by The
United Nations Piano Quartet.
Donations will accepted at the door in support of the festival.
