Crew Works to Open La-Z-Boy in Time for Tax-Free Weekend

A crew of about 50 people have been working hard to get the store, formerly occupied by Modells Sporting Goods, open in time for this weekend’s “tax-free” holiday," Store Manager Aleighen Cleary said. "A grand-opening is scheduled for Labor Day weekend."

Cleary takes over responsibilities as store manager having served in the same capacity at a store in Scarsdale, NY.  She has been with the La-Z-Boy corporation since 2002.

“We took in four truckloads of furniture today and are expecting two more tomorrow,” Cleary said Monday afternoon. “This store represents an entirely new concept for La-Z-Boy with a slightly more feminine approach to our marketing.”

"Things used to be a little bit more geared to the “man-cave” set, but now we’ve brightened the store, softened things up  and have enlisted Brooke Shields as our spokesperson,” Cleary added.

Cleary was quick to point out that the majority of furniture customers will see in the store is made in the US, specifically from Tennessee and California.

“Our goal is to offer the customer a relaxed shopping atmosphere,” she said. “Our sales team is NOT working on commission."

While many folks think of La-Z-Boy recliners, Cleary emphasized that the store carries furniture for the entire house, along with a complimentary design service.

“We’ll come out to your home, take measurements, check out the floorplan and have our design team assist in picking out just the right furniture”, Cleary said.”

Cleary said that her store crew is pretty much complete, but they’re still seeking the services of a part time sales associate/design assistant and local residents are urged to apply.
