DG Electric Beats Ken Sho-Ryu Karate in Little League Championship Game

DG Electric collected the league title in the final game of the regular season. The league's top flight talent will now look to capture division titles as the all-star season opens.

Seekonk Little League's championship game for the 2011 season may be remembered as the Brendan Cavaco show. DG Electric triumphed over Ken Sho-Ryu Karate 3-2 in the final game of the regular season, but Cavaco stole the show.

Cavaco was DG's starting pitcher, going five innings and giving up only two runs. Matthew Gallup came in to shut the door for DG in the sixth inning.

Of course, DG would have had no use for a closer if they had not outscored the opponent through five innings. Cavaco handled that also, hitting a solo homerun and a two run job, batting in all three of DG's runs on the day.

"They cleared the fence easily," said coach Dave Gallup with a chuckle of the two balls his big bat knocked out of the yard.

"We had a good season," said Gallup, who attributed his team's success to key contributions from the five rookies they fielded and to a willingness to practice hard up and down the roster.

With the league title settled, some of the elite players across Seekonk Little League are only about half way through their baseball season. Seekonk will be fielding all-star teams in eight different divisions for players ages 8-16.

Some age groups, like the 11-year-olds, are only able to win a district title. Win or lose, they will only play teams from nearby towns such as Fall River and Swansea.

For other age groups, like the 12-year-olds, there is the possibility of a very long summer of baseball. If Seekonk's 12-year-olds go on a special run, they could be in Williamsport, playing in the Little League World Series this August.

DG will be sending Cavaco and Gallup to the 12-year-old team, which Dave Gallup will be coaching this post season.

DG's Wes Gallishaw and Dawson Brosnihan will play for the 11 year-old-team, which has a special district tournament this year. The 11-year-old District 6 tournament will be hosted by Seekonk. Keep up with Patch for updates on the games to be played in Seekonk and around the district.
