Dunkin' Donuts Owners Help with Attleboro's Big Bang
City officials will be out collecting, but it's not for taxes. It's for fireworks.
Taking the pressure off the city budget, several Dunkin' Donuts franchisee owners have committed to giving the city's Fireworks Committee up to $10,000 in donations to help pay for a portion of Attleboro's annual Fourth of July fireworks display.
Local Dunkin' Donuts owners presented a ceremonial check to the Fireworks Committee on Tuesday night to kick off a donation collection challenge. The effort to raise funds for the display came from the late.
"God bless you Dee, for what you've started," Fireworks Committee Co-Chair Walt Thibodeau said.

Last year’s program included 2,352 firework shells and now the committee's intent is to surpass and provide a spectacular show for the community. In order to reach that goal, the committee needs $38,000 to cover the cost of public safety, fireworks and entertainment.
Local politicians, candidates and community groups will volunteer their time at six locations throughout the city to help collect funds for the display.

Members of the Attleboro City Council, Attleboro Democratic City Committee and the Attleboro Youth Commission have stepped forward to offer their time to help with the collection.
To date, organizers have collected approximately $6,000. An additional $14,000 has already been set aside for the 2014 (city’s centennial) fireworks.
It will be the ninth consecutive year that the popular donut chain has provided money to the effort and owners are excited about the donation. Jennifer Fontaine, manager/owner, of the on County Street said she doesn't have to think twice about donating to the cause each year.
"It's the one event that really does bring everyone together," Fontaine said. "Attleboro is our family and this event brings family and friends together for one night of fun and the one big bang."
Attleboro resident and owner of the Oakhill Avenue location, Chris Cahoon, said donating to the fireworks display is a way to give back to the families that support the business.
"Without them we wouldn't be here," Cahoon said.
"Thanks to the generous support of our loyal customers," Franchisee Steve Andrade said, "we have donated more than $80,000 to the Fireworks Committee and look forward to helping to raise enough money to make this year’s celebration the best yet."
