Film: The Economics of Happiness

An inspiring new film, The Economics of Happiness, will be shown at Seekonk Congregational Church, in Woodworth Hall in the Gardiner Building, followed by dessert and discussion.  The screening is sponsored by the church’s Mission and Action Committee and Sustainable Seekonk.  Donations are welcome.

The Economics of Happiness describes a world moving in two directions.  Economic globalization and the consolidation of corporate power have worsened nearly every problem we face:  fundamentalism and ethnic conflict, financial instability and unemployment, and damage to eco-systems.  For the majority of people on the planet, life is becoming increasingly stressful.  Meanwhile, a worldwide movement is afoot to create a new paradigm, an economics of localization where communities rebuild more human scale, ecological economies.  The film argues that bringing the economy back home is a strategic solution multiplier, spells out policy changes needed for local businesses to survive and prosper, and provides examples of community relocalization initiatives that restore people’s sense of well-being.
