Father/Daughter Duo Co-Author a Children's Book
Attleboro elementary student and her father co-write, Butterflies in My Belly,
Attleboro authors Kalya and David Johnston make at-home storytelling into reality with the book, Butterflies in My Belly.

"Butterflies in My Belly" was written two years ago by Kayla and her father David when Kayla was 7 years old. The junior Johnston maybe the youngest author in Attleboro as well as part of a very elite group of Attleboro authors.

The project began as playtime between father and daughter. Kayla's idea of playing was storytelling. Together they began to put the words on paper.
The story is about a little girl who was nervous about a dance recital and wondered why her mom referred to that feeling as having butterflies in her stomach.

Readers are taken on an journey to explores how the butterflies got there.
The elder Johnston searched for a way to capture the story in a book for everyone to read. One of the first hurdles was finding an illustrator. But when Jessie Turcotte, a business associate, entered into her Johnson's office the problem was solved. Together, the Johnsons and Turcotte worked hard to find a publisher and found a good match with Author House Publishing.
The book was published June 23, 2010 and is listed with the Library of Congress.
In fact, the Johnsons held a book signing recently at the Attleboro Farmers Market at 74 North Main St.
Today, not only can students at Hyman Fine find the book in their library, but parents, teachers and other children can find borrow it from three libraries or order it from Amazon.com and Barnes & Nobles.
Kayla, now 10, is entering another stage in her life–middle school. Along with hitting the books, she also has plans to write another one of her. When asked what the next story would be about Kayla replied: "Why do We Need Little Brothers?"
