UPDATE: Friendly's to Shut Down Attleboro's Pleasant Street Location [VIDEO]
The restaurant is one of 63 that the company says it identified as "underperforming."
Employees at . in Attleboro were taking down fixtures and boxing up products this morning after staff was informed that the small chain restaurant was one of 63 locations that would close its doors.
The store's general manager John Trophy was greeting patrons as they got out of their car to inform them of the news. "It's a sad, sad day," he said.
A sign on the take-out window and front door read:"Thank you for your patronage. This restaurant has permanently closed."

"It's going to be a long week," said one employee who was helping manager John Riccio pack up sundae bowls, cones and other items.
Trophy would not provide any comment on reaction from employees when they heard the news that their location was on the chopping block to close and deferred any additional questions to the corporate office. By 11 a.m. employees were packing supplies and inventory into a U-Haul truck to bring to other Friendly locations.

The Massachusetts-based Friendly Ice Cream Corporation announced today that it will shut down 63 of its locations, including the . The move comes on the heels of the company filing a voluntary petition for bankruptcy this week.
Jessica Martin of nearby Norton, MA arrived with her son Richod Tuesday morning and was disappointed with the news. Martin said visited Friendly's on Pleasant Street often because the restaurant provided a good meal at an inexpensive price.
Friendlys states that 424 restaurants will remain open for business. The 63 to close were reportedly selected after a "thorough analysis of the profitability and contribution" identified those locations as underperforming."
The Attleboro location, store number 565, had the capacity to seat 70 patrons, but was one of the smaller of the chain's locations.
In addition to the Pleasant Street location in Attleboro, other affected restaurants include 30 across Massachusetts, as well as restaurants in New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Vermont, Maine, New Jersey and Connecticut. Two Rhode Island locations — in Wakefield and Warwick — were also closed.
The on Washington Street is not on the list of closures and is open today.
