Grace Baptist Christian Academy Graduates Five from Kindergarten

With all the pomp and pageantry of a collegiate commencement exercise, Grace Baptist Christian Academy of Attleboro graduated five students May 23 from its Kindergarten program.

Adorned in white graduation gowns and mortarboards, topped with tassels of red, black, white and gold (the school’s colors), the five youngsters exhibited their burgeoning academic and social skills during a one-hour ceremony outdoors in GBCA’s courtyard. On a cool but tolerable evening, students received “diplomas” from their two teachers this year and vowed to continue their development next year in Grade 1.

GBCA’s newest Kindergarten graduates included Kiara Corry, Kyari Lopes, Alexis Moore, Blake Rezendes and Jonah Silva. They were taught for the first half of the current school year by Anna Barrett and by Lindsey Kennell in the second half.

The five students paraded into the courtyard to the tunes of “Pomp and Circumstance,” recited pledges of allegiance to the American flag, Christian flag and Bible; sang the “Star Spangled Banner;” and recited their favorite Bible verses and stories. Later, they demonstrated their knowledge of arithmetic, science and phonics; sang songs and recited poems; read written passages; and performed a brief skit of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.”

Following a brief graduation speech from Lorraine Bailey, GBCA faculty member and director of its Amazing Grace Preschool, students received their “diplomas” from the two teachers and recessed from the premises to the tunes of “Onward Christian Soldiers.”

Karen Curran, a member of the GBCA School Committee, delivered a brief invocation at the opening of the ceremony.
