Grace Baptist Girls Team Wins State Tournament; Boys Take Second

Grace Baptist Christian Academy of Attleboro celebrates state tournament win.

The girls’ basketball team of of Attleboro beat host Twin City Christian School, 33-11, in the Massachusetts Association of Christian Schools’ State Tournament championship game. 

Jamie Emerson scored 13 points and Sarah Allen added eight points as the Centurions (14-1) led from start to finish while playing the Eagles for the third time this year. 

Grace Baptist's roster also includes Emily Wiegand, Stacy Wiegand, Olivia Beals, Alison Louis, Baily McLernon, Caroline Kirby, Jessica Rodrigues, Kelly Nichols, Hannah Johnson, Arianna Patterson, Head Coach Jeff Nichols and assistant coaches Todd Allen and Pat McLernon.

Emily Wiegand was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The Centurions will return to Lunenburg Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5, to compete in the New England Association of Christian Schools’ Regional Tournament, where they will compete agains state champions from Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The boys' basketball team lost to New England Baptist Academy of West Bridgewater, 50-45, in its championship game. The Centurions assumed a 13-8 lead after one quarter, but fell to New England Baptist Academy's perimeter shooting in the second quarter.

NEBA widened its score early in the third period, but Grace Baptist rallied to within 38-32. The Centurions twice narrowed their deficit to three points, but it was not enough. Zack Yoakum netted 15 points, while Chris Redlund contributed 13.
