The induction ceremony includes a candle-lighting component, during which the flame from the central candle (the lamp of knowledge) is used to light four candles, one for each of the four core values of the society.

Four students were selected to light the four candles representing scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society was established in 1921 by the National Society of Secondary School principals. The Seekonk High School Principal Marcia McGovern and Assistant Principal Mr. Christopher Jones were both on hand to witness the proceedings. The advisor of the NHS Mrs. Cheryl Geremia, felt honored to have the opportunity to mentor an guide such amazing young men and women.
