Attleboro Special Olympic Athletes Win Medals At State Tournaments
Unified teams participate in football, soccer and cheerleading.
Attleboro's flag football team earned gold medals at Sunday's statewide tournament held at . They were cheered on to victory by the Angel's cheerleading squad.
Football, cheerleading and soccer are "unified sports," where special olympic athletes are assisted and mentored by regular education peers. The flag football event included an appearance by some New England Patriot cheerleaders who assisted the girls and taught them some new cheers.
Just one week ago the Heller's Angels fielded both Junior and Senior unified soccer teams at the state soccer tournament which was held at the Governor's Academy in Byfield. The Senior team won bronze and the Junior team brought home the gold. The tournaments were the final event of the fall sports season. Heller's Angels athletes have been practicing weekly since early September.
