The West Street Chapel has held a vacation Bible school, which includes Bible stories, crafts and games, for more than 30 years.

"This year, Good News Bible Chapel is taking it outside the walls for the first time and doing a similar program at Capron Park," Good News Teaching Pastor Steve DuPlessie said. "The goal is to serve more kids from Attleboro neighborhoods and meet their families.

"Many families want their kids to be brought up with faith in God, but those same families have opted out of 'church' for many different reasons," he added. "Sonshine in the Park is one way to introduce children to faith without all the religious packaging."

Because children are not required to register for the free program, DuPlessie said he has no idea how many children to expect each week, but he is planning for at least 100 and is ready to scale up quickly if many more children attend.

The program will take place, rain or shine, at the fields of Capron Park on the zoo side with the Newell Shelter as home base, according to DuPlessie.

"Sonshine in the Park will be lots if fun - with a purpose," he said.
