Project 9/11 Unites Students and Community in Cleanup Effort

Led by AHS students and their teacher, Project 9/11 cleaned up areas around the city.

A group of Attleboro High School students and their teacher, Rebecca Richard, worked to organize Project 9/11, which sought to gather 911 people to do an hour of community service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.

The students and community volunteers gathered in front of the superintendent’s office today to begin the cleanup with a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives on that day.

Richard said that in the aftermath of the attacks, communities across the country united to support one another and that Project 9/11 works in part to again unite the community.

Yesterday the group was busy volunteering at the Attleboro Farmers Market for their book drive, but also found time to recruit additional volunteers, such as Tracy Canaday and her daughter, Molly.

“It’s nice to be a part of the community and to pay tribute on the 10th anniversary,” said Canaday.

School committee member Michael Levinson also found out about the project at yesterday’s farmers market and joined in the cleanup.

“It’s a great idea and it’s great to give back to the community,” said Levinson.

“We’re just being a community and making this a nicer place to be,” said Richard.
