Prom-Ready: Preparing for the Big Night

Where did your prom-goer prepare for prom?

The end of the school year is fast-approaching, and for the upperclassmen of Seekonk High School, this means prom. After months of anticipation, the long-awaited day has come. So how much effort did these students have to put into making sure this one night is absolutely perfect?

  • For the ladies, the preparation starts with gown hunting.  This process can begin as early as October, or as late as May.  Many girls have found their dresses at the local shops, such as Wishing Well:  a bridal boutique located at 333 Newport Ave, East Providence.  The seamstresses provide gown alterations at modest prices; sometimes even for free, depending on the dress.
  • Of course the boys need something to wear, too. Located at 84 Taunton Ave in East Providence, Anthony’s House of Formals (in conjunction with Helene’s Bridal Shoppe) is a good place to rent prom tuxedos. There is also Ana’s Bridal & Tuxedo, at 456 Warren Ave., East Providence. Boutiques like these two, which sell both tuxes and gowns, are perfect for prom couples; this way, the tux is easily matchable with their date’s dress.
  • Most students prefer to travel to prom with their groups of friends. For transportation, they may look to East Providence for limo businesses, like Starlight Limousine & Transportation and Sentinel Limousine. Both offer services for prom; and both cover most of Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Remember, it is never to early to reserve a limousine.
  • Prom is probably one of the few times in his life a man will agree to wear flowers. The boutonnieres, the corsages, the bouquets...these floral accessories finalize the prom ensemble. , at 751 Fall River Avenue, is debuting their “Floral Couture Wrist Corsages”:  elegant corsages with fashionable bracelets in place of typical band or ribbon.  Jephry Floral Studio, located at 432 Broadway in Providence, also accommodates prom.  This florist provides an assortment of small bouquets, which appear to be quite popular this year.
  • Hair and nails are usually the last items on a girl’s prom to-do list.  They generally go for nail designs that either match their gown, or opt for the traditional French Mani/Pedi. There are three local nail salons on Fall River Avenue: Color Nails Salon; ; and , which also features a beauty parlor. Seekonk hair salon Shear Innovations accepts prom hair-style requests, and also promises special offers when “liked” on Facebook.
