Seekonk Little League Defeats Fairhaven

The Seekonk 12U all-stars are now half way to the district championship game. If they can win their next two games, they will play in a championship game.

Seekonk's 12U Division all-stars were able to keep a talented Fairhaven Little League Baseball team at bay on Saturday, using the same tandem of Nathan Ferrick and Jack Foisy on the mound, adding late help from Brendan Cavaco. "That's going to be our rotation. It's working, we're going to stay with it," said coach Dave Gallup after the 11-5 win.

Gallup used Ferrick and Foisy in his 12-1 win on Thursday night, limiting each pitcher to enough work that they could be used again on Saturday. Saturday's win gives the team enough time off that all three pitchers are available for the next game on Thursday.

Seekonk's offense continued to grind down quality competition in Saturday's matchup. In the top of the second inning, Seekonk batted around and scored eight runs.

When a team has such a prolific inning, Little League baseball fans know it is often due to walks. Seekonk, however, was putting on another hitting clinic. Only one batter walked in the top of the second, to go along with seven hits in the frame.

Continuing an impressive display of offensive power, Seekonk had another homerun on Saturday. When the game seemed to be in hand already, Justin Silva stepped to the plate in the third inning with Cavaco on first base.

Silva launched a ball into the woods adjacent to the Ten Mile River, making the score 10-1 in favor of Seekonk.

Things got more interesting than the local fans wanted to see in the fifth inning, when Fairhaven fought back to within five runs. They managed to chase Jack Foisy from the game, but Brendan Cavaco came in to close the door.

Again Seekonk had dismantled their opponent without playing their best baseball. The team committed four errors in the game, and for the second straight game had major confusion between two fielders tracking down a fly ball which ultimately fell to the turf.

"That was our big conversation, it's a work in progress. We always have things to work on," said Gallup after his postgame conference with the team, which lasted over 20 minutes.

Now the team has a much welcomed long layoff. While teams which have lost one game are back to work on July 5, Seekonk will wait until Thursday, the 7th to play again. They will travel to Fall River American for that game. For fans looking to travel to the game, it will be played at 378 President Avenue. Time, although likely 5:30 p.m., is TBA.
