Six Grace Baptist Christian Academy Basketball Players Earn All-Star Recognition

Six basketball players at Grace Baptist Christian Academy of Attleboro were recently accorded all-star designation by coaches in the Massachusetts Association of Christian Schools for their on-court exploits during the 2013-14 season.

          According to Pastor Jeffrey Bailey, GBCA’s superintendent and basketball coach, four boys and two girls representing GBCA were honored by league coaches this year.

          The boys’ all-star selections included seniors Lee Nichols and Nate Corkum along with junior Shyheem Shorey and freshman Bryan Pacheco. The girls’ all-star picks featured senior Carrie Kirby and junior Rachel Nichols.

          GBCA’s boys’ team finished second in the MACS regular-season standings this winter, but regrouped and captured the program’s first MACS State Tournament title since 2010 by defeating Twin City Christian School of Lunenburg, 42-37, in the championship game. The Centurions then concluded their season by bowing to Stedfast Christian Academy of Groton, Conn., in a quarterfinal round of the New England Region Tournament.

          In addition to receiving all-star notice, Shorey was also chosen as Most Valuable Player of the State Tournament.

          GBCA’s girls’ squad placed third in regular-season play, but advanced to the title contest of the State Tournament where it bowed to Twin City, 26-20.
