ATTLEBORO, MA — An Attleboro man pulled over in Taunton for violating the state's mobile phone law was charged with drug trafficking on Monday after State Police said a bag containing pills believed to be ecstasy were found during a search of the suspect. State Police said James Chalmers, 29, was charged with trafficking in a Class B substances and issued a written warning for the mobile phone violation.

Police said Chalmers was pulled over on Anderson Street in Taunton about 5:30 on Monday night after he was observed using the mobile phone improperly. Police said the trooper then saw Chalmers moving around the SUV in a manner that caused the trooper to be concerned he might be concealing or retrieving a weapon.

Police said Chalmers was ordered out of the Hyundai and frisked for a weapon. It was then that they said a bag containing pills believed to be ecstasy was found, along with more than $2,900 in cash.

Chalmers was held on $500 bail pending his arraignment in Taunton District Court.
