Master Plan Update Addresses Sustainability, Economic Development

The Seekonk Planning Board approved sections of the town's master plan.

According to Town Planner John Hansen, the economic development and sustainability portion of the town's master plan update has been approved by the Seekonk Planning Board. The public can review and comment on the documents.

The master plan is a policy document that guides decisions of town boards and commissions.

According to Hansen, the studies completed by Horsley Witten Group, Inc., didn't reveal any unexpected data; green energy sources are not prevalent in town. Going forward, the members might try to strategize ways to implement sustainable ventures.

Phase two of the plan is underway. The consultant will evaluate Seekonk's land use, transportation and public facilities. A public forum will be held in the fall to hear residents opinions on what they would like to see going forward in their town.

"[The plan] is always open for debate," Hansen said. "The plan as a whole hasn't been approved yet. It's always open for comments."
