VIDEO: Beisel Returns to Rousing Homecoming

Several hundred people welcome the Olympic medalist and Attleboro Bluefish Swim Club alumna back to her native New England.

Nothing quite beats a state police escort from the airport to a . Two-time Olympic medalist Elizabeth Beisel, a former trainee with the Attleboro Bluefish Swim Club, received just that when she returned home to Rhode Island following the 2012 London Games. 

Hundreds of supporters flooded the athletic complex at l for the homecoming sponsored by WJAR-TV. Overwhelmed by the outpouring of applause and "Beisel" chants upon her arrival, the 19-year-old covered her face several times as she crossed the football field.  

"Even though I'm living in Florida right now, Rhode Island is always going to be my home," Beisel said. "I brag to everyone wherever I am about how great Rhode Island is."

A member of the Bluefish's class of 2010, Beisel will enter her junior year as a swimmer for the University of Florida, where she has won multiple SEC championships.

"Thank you for bringing honor to our school system and our community and for being such a great inspiration to our students," said Phil Auger, superintendent of the North Kingstown school district.

Also in attendance were Rhode Island Congressman James Langevin and Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts, who called Beisel's Olympic performance "brilliant." She took home a silver medal in the and a bronze medal in the .

Beisel said she hopes to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Her goal for those games is to add a gold medal to her growing collection.
