VIDEO: Team Kensho Ryu Karate Leads Seekonk Little League at Season Start
Kensho Ryu Karate, coached by David Silva, holds a 5-1 mark one third of the way through the season.
In a league where the norm is to bounce back and forth between two starting pitchers, David Silva's team has found those two arms. Team Kensho Ryu Karate has been riding starters Brian Silva and Josh Machado through the first six games, and they have twelve more games to play.
"Brian has really come along pitching and Josh is a pretty steady arm," said Silva of his team's pitching situation. The two have been a large portion of the reason the team is off to a 5-1 start.
They have also been able to find the big hit when they've needed it. "We've got two mature bats," said Silva. One is Justin Silva, who plays a lot of baseball. Brian Silva has also been chipping in offensively.

The team is not expecting to maintain its roaring pace throughout the season, but would certainly like to. "We have a lot of holes, we're still a little league team," said Silva, citing base running and fundamental defense as areas where the team has lapsed and can continue to improve.
"Sometimes you just forget those things, every little league team does," said Silva, adding that things will probably start to even out as some of the other teams at the top of the league standings play lesser teams.

Kensho Ryu Karate should be able to ride their two starters until the final two weeks of the season, when they play six games in two weeks time. Playoffs are just over a month away. When the team gets to that point, those two starters should be sufficient if they can retain one of the higher seeds.
The team continues to enjoy its early season success, and to generally have fun as the season goes on. The coach sees the bigger picture and is glad everyone is out on the field having a good time. "We have great parents and great kids, they love to play ball."
