VIDEO: Seekonk 12U Little League Team Loses to Fall River American

The all-stars from Fall River American Little League edged Seekonk 4-3 on Thursday night. Seekonk's team is now one loss away from elimination, with the next game coming Saturday morning.

A Seekonk offense that had 14 hits in each of its previous two games managed only seven against Fall River American in the third game of the district tournament on Thursday night. "Tonight was not our usually hitting, a little off tonight," said manager Dave Gallup after the game held at North Park in Fall River.

Things did not start off so poorly for the local team. Eddy Jackson roped the first pitch of the game into centerfield for a double, he would later hit the only homerun of the game, an absolute no doubter. Jackson would eventually score on a grounder off the bat of Noah Agostini.

That ground ball should have been an out, but the ball was dropped at first base. Agostini reached, and became the first of three runners who would be stranded in the first frame.

Seekonk fell behind for the first time in the tournament in the bottom of the first inning. Kyle Lepage followed Jackson's lead and doubled to start things off. From there on, Seekonk starter Nathan Ferrick, who had been very good early in the tournament, could not find the plate.

Ferrick was pulled in the first inning after walking in a run, and it was Brendan Cavaco's turn to throw for Seekonk. Cavaco would essentially stop the bleeding, striking out ten over 5 2/3 innings and allowing only two runs, both unearned.

The disturbing part for Seekonk fans was the fashion in which the two unearned runs were scored. When Cavaco struck out two batters in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded, Matt Gallup flipped the ball back to the mound and his teammates started to head for the dugout. Unfortunately for Seekonk, there were only two outs, and the runner on third scored.

Then in the fourth inning, Lepage would score when JP McDonald made a heads up play on the basepath. McDonald took off from first base with two outs in the inning, which prompted Gallup to throw down.

Gallup had already ended one inning by gunning down a runner, but this time, McDonald pulled up. He was caught in a rundown, but Lepage scored before McDonald was caught. This was the eventual winning run.

Dave Gallup was unhappy, but not without hope after the loss. "They didn't have the full fire in their eyes like I would hope, but they didn't give up. You know, we got a little taste of losing...it isn't nice," said the manager.

Seekonk now awaits an opponent, a venue and a time for their next game on Saturday. They will look to eliminate some fundamental mistakes and get their bats churning again.
