Caleb Hawley / Barnaby Bright / Susan Cattaneo
Tuesday / January 27, 2015 / 8:00 p.m. / The Red Room @ Cafe 939 / 939 Boylston Street

Harlem’s Caleb Hawley is an American soul singer, songwriter, and performer. Like savvy throwback crooners Mayer Hawthorne and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Hawley channels early Stevie Wonder and other Motown sounds into a complete, magnetic package.
Nathan and Rebecca Bliss, the voices and brains behind Barnaby Bright, are modern-day traveling troubadours, averaging roughly 200 shows and 40,000 miles traveled a year. You can find them on streets as far away as London or Amsterdam and as remote as St. Paris, Ohio, toting their massive haul of instruments, including multiple guitars, a harmonium, a floorboard bass, thumb pianos, and keyboards, among others. Because of the great number of shows they’ve played (as well as their unique instrumentation, powerful harmonies, and thought-provoking lyrics), this duo has mastered the original goal they set out to attain: to create a sacred, magical space for their audiences, a momentary escape from the outside world.
Susan Cattaneo has been a songwriting professor at Berklee for 13 years. She’s written songs covered by numerous artists in Nashville, and her tunes helped launch the careers of Jillian Cardanelli and Erica Nicole. A singer-songwriter, Cattaneo has released three albums of mostly upbeat, catchy, pop/country music: Brave and Wild in 2009, Heaven to Heartache in 2011, and Little Blue Sky in 2012. When you listen to her, you hear a blend of country, rock, and soul with sparkles of blues and folk, music that would slide into the comfort zone for fans of Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin Carpenter, or Sheryl Crow.
