C.B. DeMille's "King of Kings" with improvised organ accompaniment at St. Cecilia's

Saint Cecilia Church, Boston announces a showing of Cecil B. DeMille’s silent movie masterpiece, “The King of Kings,” accompanied by organist improviser extraordinaire Peter Edwin Krasinski on the 1999 Smith & Gilbert Organ of 3,000 pipes. The event will take place in the gloriously restored sanctuary of Saint Cecilia’s Church, 18 Belvidere Street in Boston's Back Bay, on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 7:00 PM.
Produced in 1927, “The King of Kings,” was the world's greatest screen epic and had one of the biggest budgets in Hollywood history. DeMille spun the life and Passion of Christ into a silent-era blockbuster featuring texts drawn directly from the Bible, a cast of thousands, amazing lighting, perfectly detailed costumes and cinematic novelties. “The King of Kings” is at once spectacular and deeply reverent, part Gospel, part Technicolor epic. It is a most ambitious presentation of the final years of the life of Jesus.
Peter Krasinski is winner of the American Guild of Organists National Competition in Organ Improvisation. He has premiered the art of silent movie accompaniment in great spaces including “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” at St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, “The King of Kings” at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, in Hartford, CT., "The Cameraman" at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Boston, "Old Ironsides" at Old South Church, Boston, "Waxworks" at Smith College, and "Flesh and the Devil" at Minato Mirai Hall, Japan. Recent performances include “Nosferatu" at the University of Pennsylvania’s Irvine Auditorium in Philadelphia and “Metropolis” at Trinity Wall Street in New York City. He has performed in centennial celebrations for the largest operational instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ, in Philadelphia and the Methuen Memorial Music Hall, the first concert organ in the United States. This Fall, Krasinski will be embarking on his fourth tour of Japan having previously played in Yokohama, Fukui, Kanazawa, and Miyazaki.
Admission to DeMille's ground-breaking 85-year-old film with Krasinski's improvised accompaniment is $15, $10 for seniors and students with/ID, or $30 for an unlimited family pass. For further information, please call 617-536-4548 x113 or visit www.stceciliaboston.org.
