Hecht, Brownsberger Pick-up Newspaper Endorsements
The Boston Globe and Boston Herald backed Belmont State Rep. Will Brownsberger and Watertown's Jonathan Hecht got the nod from the Cambridge Chronicle.
Belmont State Rep. Will Brownsberger received endorsements from the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald in the race for the Second Suffolk and Middlesex State Senate seat, while Watertown State Rep. Jonathan Hecht received the blessing of the Cambridge Chronicle.
The election to replace Steven Tolman in the senate will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, and the district includes Watertown, Belmont, parts of Cambridge and Boston (inlcuding Brighton, Allston, the Fenway and the Back Bay).
The Globe said Brownsberger "has a progressive record on social and environmental matters - but also a history of creative thinking about making government more effective, honest, and transparent."

The Herald said it had disagreements with all four candidates — Brownsberger, Hecht, Brighton attorney Tim Schofield and former state firefighter union president Bob McCarthy of Watertown — but the paper said the Belmont rep. has an "admirable independent streak while serving in the House."
The Cambridge Chronicle endorsed Hechts and wrote: "Hecht has a strong record of support for education and environmental issues and supports closing tax loopholes and reducing corporate tax breaks. He’s also not afraid to break with legislative leadership, as shown by voting against casinos."
