Man With Gun to Head in Custody

The Mass Ave. bridge was closed as police responded to an initial hostage situation. Man is being evaluated.

A man holding a gun to his head in a Beacon Street apartment was placed in police custody just after 2 p.m.

Police responded to 477 Beacon Street around 1:30 p.m. According to Twitter reports, they held the man at gunpoint, as he had a gun pointed to his own head. Police initially shut down the Mass Ave. bridge and called the SWAT team for a hostage negotiator, but the SWAT call was soon cancelled.

The situation was under control just after 2 p.m. as the man, believed to be a psychiatric patient, dropped his gun and was taken into police custody. Police spokesman Elaine Driscoll said he's currently being evaluated.
