Patrick Signs Landmark Health Care Cost Control Bill

In what is being hailed as a landmark bill to complement the state's push toward universal health care coverage, Gov. Deval Patrick signed on Monday a bill to help control rising medical costs.

The bill pegs spending targets to the states's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the next five years, after which it will drop to half a percentage point below the growth of the economy. .

“We are ushering in the end of the fee-for-service care system in Massachusetts in favor of better care, at lower cost,” Patrick said, according to the Boston Globe.
