Police Arrest Men They Say Responsible For Robberies on Common

Two men suspected of "numerous robberies" in the area.

Two men police believe committed several robberies in and around the Boston Common were arrested Wednesday evening after a brief chase that ended in the Park Street T station.

Officers on the Safe Street Team had been patrolling the Common around 7:15 p.m. when they saw a man chasing two others in the park. The man spotted police and told them he had just been robbed at knifepoint by the two others. The officers gave chase and caught up with the suspects at the turnstiles in the T station

After a brief struggle, police arrested Tommy Gedeus, 20, and Christian Ruiz, 18, both of Boston, on charges of armed robbery and resisting arrest. Police say they found both the stolen property — a cell phone, iPod and cash — as well as the knife on Gedeus and Ruiz.

The victim said that he and another person had been around the War Memorial when Gedeus pulled out a knife and he and Ruiz went through their pockets.

Detectives interviewed the suspects afterward, and wrote that "the preliminary investigation indicates that Gedeus and Ruiz are responsible for numerous other robberies in the area. The investigation is ongoing and charges are anticipated."
