Police: Woman Attacked on Esplanade and Thrown Into Charles

She's being treated for injuries at Boston Medical Center and said there was no attempted sexual assault.

A 61-year-old woman said she was beaten and thrown into the Charles River while walking along the early this morning.

The woman told state police around 3:10 a.m. she was struck from behind and pushed into the Charles. She was able to get out and walked to the Prudential Mall, where a security guard spotted her and noticed she had a head injury. He called police and EMS.

She's being treated for injuries at Boston Medical Center and said there was no attempted sexual assault. She was not able to provide a description of her attacker. Police said they aren't releasing the exact location of the attack, and it's under investigation.

At this point, they don’t believe the assault is connected to a series of prior unsolved attacks on women on the Esplanade and at Moakley Park in South Boston.
