Prudential Center Security Robot Is Terminated

Security (human ones) escorted the robot off the premises Wednesday morning after months of faithful service.

BOSTON, MA – The Prudential Center security robot has been relieved of its post after months of humming around the shopping center's halls. A Prudential Center tweet showed two (human) security officers escorting the Knightscope K5 off the premises Wednesday morning.

It's unclear whether the K5 retired or was let go, but there appears to be no bad blood between the Pru and its former employee.

The K5 started working at the Prudential Center in May. A Boston Globe report at the time outlined its security features, many coming straight from the pages of a sci-fi script: 360-degree cameras, human detection capabilities and live or pre-recorded speech (sadly, no "Hasta la vista, baby").

The robot quickly became a mainstay at the shopping complex – quite literally, it never left – and was the butt of numerous "Star Wars" and "Terminator" jokes. Through it all, the K5 took it in 2-mph stride.

Where the K5 is headed next is anyone's guess, but we wish it the best of luck.
