Malden Store Sells $2 Million Powerball Ticket

MALDEN, MA — A $2 million ticket was sold at a local store in the latest Powerball drawing, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery.

The ticket matched five of the six winning numbers in the Wednesday, Aug. 12 drawing and included the Power Play option to win $2 million. The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, with a Powerball of 9. The Power Play multiplier allowed the amount to be doubled.

The winning Massachusetts ticket was purchased at Robinson News Convenience on 1556 Eastern Ave. in Malden. Three other tickets sold in Massachusetts won $50,000 prizes in Wednesday's drawing. The tickets were sold at a Cumberland Farms in Attleboro, a Cumberland Farms in Granby and a 7-Eleven in Dedham.

The $1.04 billion jackpot was won on a ticket sold in Illinois. Five tickets sold in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina also matched five of the six numbers and won $1 million prizes.

Powerball players select five numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26. Each play costs $2, with players able to add the Power Play option for an additional $1 per play. Power Play can multiply non-jackpot prizes, while a ticket matching all five white balls with Power Play wins $2 million.

The odds of matching all five white balls are approximately 1 in 11.7 million, while the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are approximately 1 in 292.2 million. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
