Ivy Street School Extravaganza

Invite your friends, relatives, and neighbors as we welcome you to cheer on the students at Ivy Street School as they perform this year's theme, Grease Lightning. For one night, Ivy Street School turns into Rydell High when Danny Zuko and Sandy from Grease join the talented students on stage. A magician will marvel, a gospel choir will inspire, kids will krump, and the spotlight will shine. The Ivy Street School is honored to be presenting the Cottage Farm Neighborhood Association with its Community Award, celebrating their neighbors for their commitment to inclusion, advocacy, and community building.
The Ivy Street School is a residential school in Brookline, Massachusetts, for adolescents struggling with the challenges of autism spectrum disorder, brain injury and other neurological conditions, and behavioral health diagnoses.

Join Berklee's renowned faculty for an exciting performance featuring an incredible rhythm section comprising Ross Ramsay, Mark Walker, Dave Limina, Anthony Vitti, and Ricardo Monzon. Additional featured faculty musicians including Allan Chase, Loudon Stearns, and more will be rocking on stage as part of Berklee Onsite 2016, Berklee Online’s annual music conference.

Percussion Weekend: Zoro in Concert

Known as the minister of groove, Zoro is an internationally renowned rock star, motivational speaker, author, and the consummate definition of the rare man who marches to the beat of a different drum. He has sat on the drummer’s throne commanding some of the most famous stages in the worlds of rock and R&B music. He has toured and recorded with Lenny Kravitz, Bobby Brown, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, New Edition, and Jody Watley, to name a few. Throughout his career, he has consistently been voted the no. 1 R&B drummer and clinician by premier music industry publications such as Modern Drummer, Drum!, and Rhythm Magazine. This concert is part of Berklee’sPercussion Weekend summer program.

Victor Wooten / Steve Bailey Bass Bash / Nikki Glaspie and the Nth Power

This evening will feature two performances: the Victor Wooten/Steve Bailey Bass Bash and the Nth Power fronted by powerhouse drummer Nikki Glaspie.
The Victor Wooten/Steve Bailey Bass Bash is a jazz/funk/rock extravaganza featuring the music of Wooten, a five-time Grammy winner and Berklee visiting scholar in performance studies, and Bailey, chair of Berklee's Bass Department and six-string fretless bass pioneer, along with virtuoso drummers JD Blair and Derico Watson. This annual concert, part of the Victor Wooten/Berklee Summer Bass Workshop, is improvised, melodic, and funky.
The quintet Nth Power hails from diverse musical backgrounds, races, and creeds. Powerhouse Berklee alumna Nikki Glaspie was Beyonce’s world-touring drummer for five years before joining Ivan Neville’s New Orleans outfit, Dumpstaphunk. Bassist Nate Edgar of Groovechild and John Brown’s Body perfectly complements singer and guitarist Nick Cassarino, who came from the Jennifer Hartswick Band and toured with Big Daddy Kane. Next, add West African master percussionist Weedie Braimah to the mix with his world-beat rhythms. Rounding off the ensemble is the newest and youngest member, Courtney J’Mell Smith, who brings his soulful vocals and keyboard abilities to the table.

Join musicians from Berklee's Global String Intensive summer program for an exciting celebration of world music, jazz, folk, and new acoustic music. Faculty fiddler and jazz violinist Darol Anger opens the evening with an expanded orchestral incarnation of his Republic of Strings. Renowned Arabic violinist and Berklee professor Simon Shaheen leads a special summer edition of his near-Eastern fusion orchestra, Qantara. Current Berklee faculty, students, ensembles, and recent alumni add to the fun.

Berklee Vocal Summit Presents Five O’Clock Shadow

Throughout their 24-year history, Five O’Clock Shadow has redefined the possibilities of vocal music by incorporating mouth percussion, real-time digital effect processing, and innovative writing and arranging into its critically acclaimed live performances and recordings. At the group's core, these six vocalists produce rock-solid leads and harmonies while exploring instrumental mimicry and creating unique textures that excite, entertain, and inspire audiences of all ages. Five O’Clock Shadow effectively blurs the lines between traditional a cappella singing and today’s mainstream audio. This concert is presented by Berklee’s Vocal Summit.

Berklee Vocal Summit Presents Marlon Saunders / Shea Rose

Marlon Saunders '87 is a former Berklee professor who has just returned from touring with Stevie Wonder on his Songs in the Key of Life tour. Saunders was also the vocal contractor for Sam Smith and Bastille, and has worked with various artists including Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Javier Colon, Billy Joel, and Sting, among many others. As a vocal coach, Saunders has worked with artists from all major recording labels as well as Broadway artists currently in The Color Purple, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Lion King, and The Book of Mormon.
Shea Rose '11 is a singer-songwriter, performing artist, and activist for using music for social change. Since graduating from Berklee, Rose has been described by former Boston Globe music critic Steve Morse as “that rare artist who can bridge diverse styles such as soul, funk, rock, rap, and jazz, and bring her unique stamp to each.” She is featured on two Grammy-winning jazz albums, The Mosaic Project and Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue, by Terri Lyne Carrington. Rose has shared the stage with Gladys Knight, Macy Gray, Nneka, Alice Smith, and Talib Kweli, among others. This concert is presented by Berklee’s Vocal Summit.

Guitar Sessions: The Sheryl Bailey 3

Sheryl Bailey, an associate professor in Berklee’s Guitar Department, performs original compositions with percussion professor Ian Froman on drums, and Ron Oswanski on organ. Bailey appeared as a Rising Star in the DownBeatCritics Poll in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The group will play selections from her release A Meeting Of Minds (CellarLive) and more.

Guitar virtuoso Robben Ford’s new album, Into the Sun, debuted at no. 2 on the blues charts and shines a bright light on his artful, contemporary songwriting and stunning playing. The five-time Grammy nominee describes the 11 song set as “one of the top recordings I’ve ever done,” and Guitar Player Magazine claims it “explores the breadth of Ford’s sophisticated, visionary writing and playing, creating a new chapter in his brilliant musical history.” Ford has recorded more than 35 albums under his own name and with various bands. There’s also his session and sideman work, which includes hundreds of concert appearances and albums with Miles Davis, George Harrison, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, and Barbra Streisand, among many others. Ford is a 2016 visiting artist for Berklee’s Guitar Sessions summer program.

Guitar Sessions: The Jon Finn Group
Admission: $8 in advance / $12 day of show
Jon Finn, a professor in Berklee’s Guitar Department, presents an evening of mostly original, mostly instrumental guitar music in a wide variety of styles, featuring some strong rhythm section players. Finn has been teaching at Berklee for almost 30 years. Originally hired as a rock specialist, his playing has evolved to also include jazz, blues, funk, and any other style that catches his fancy. As a sideman, Finn has performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra, The Lion King, Rent, Amy Grant, and Vince Gill, to name just a few.

Guitar Sessions: Shaun Michaud

Shaun Michaud, an assistant professor in Berklee’s Guitar Department, performs both original and cover pop and rock songs on vocals and guitar. Michaud's band also includes drums, bass, and keyboard.
