Popular Outdoor Retailer Closes Major Massachusetts Store

BOSTON, MA — A nationwide outdoor equipment store now has an official closing date for its only Boston storefront.

REI Co-op will permanently close its store at 401 Park Dr. in Fenway on Aug. 13, according to the business. The chain first announced its Boston location would close back in October.

The Boston store has been open for 23 years, according to REI. The location sells outdoor gear and clothing and has offered bike, ski and snowboard shop services.

The last day to place a buy-online, pick-up-in-store order at the Boston location will be July 29, according to REI. The last day to drop off bikes, skis and snowboards for service was July 6.

The store is REI’s only location in Boston. The co-op has three other stores in the Bay State, in Hingham, Framingham and Reading.

REI also planned closures in SoHo, New York City and Paramus, New Jersey, Boston.com reported. The co-op reported $3.54 billion in net sales in 2025, up slightly from 2024, while narrowing its full-year net loss to $54.3 million, according to REI.
