Woman Jumps Off Longfellow Bridge

Tells police and firefighters her children are in the Charles River.

A 41-year-old Mattapan woman who jumped into Charles River by Longfellow Bridge just before midnight Friday swam to shore on the Boston side but launched a massive rescue effort when she told police and firefighters that her children were in the water.

But state police later tracked down her grown children, who were safe at home. She was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. Her closest family is in Florida.

Several police cars and other emergency personnel, including firefighters, were on the scene, near Charles MGH, around midnight.
