2 Great White Sharks Spotted About 75 Yards From Cape Cod Shore
One shark came even closer to the beach, swimming within 50 yards of the shore.
ORLEANS, MA — Two great white sharks were spotted close to the Cape Cod shore Wednesday morning, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.
The sharks were just 75-100 yards off the coast of Nauset Beach's southern drive-on area, the conservancy's Sharktivity app said. One shark came even closer to the beach, swimming within 50 yards of the shore.
The app did not say whether the beach was closed to swimming — though Cape Cod beaches are typically closed for at least an hour following a shark sighting. The conservancy said people shouldn't use their app to determine if it's safe to swim, and the only way to avoid sharks is to stay on shore.
