6-Year-Old Boy Dies In Cape Cod House Fire
A weekend fire resulted in the death of one boy. Four other occupants of the home and an Orleans police officer needed medical attention.
ORLEANS, MA — A Saturday night fire in Orleans claimed the life of a six-year-old boy, Orleans Fire Department officials said.
The Orleans Fire Department responded to a call for smoke and fire in a residence at 177 Route 6A around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Officials said the fire was coming from the second floor of a 2.5-story home.
"Firefighters learned at the scene that one person was unaccounted for. Chief Deering ordered a second alarm, drawing mutual aid from surrounding communities, and firefighters immediately made entry to conduct a search," a release from the Orleans Police Department said.

"Our hearts go out to the loved ones of this young man," said Chief Geof Deering.
"I am incredibly proud of the effort put forth by our members, as well as our mutual aid partners and other agencies, who worked with purpose and poise under challenging conditions."
According to the department, officials have ruled that the fire was accidental. It was contained to one unit in the building and was "knocked down" in about 20 minutes.
Four other occupants of the building were taken from the scene to receive medical attention, police said. One Orleans officer was also evaluated, but was quickly released.
