8 Taken To Hospital After Carbon Monoxide Exposure

Police called in a "mass casualty" as two people and a crew of emergency responders were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

PROVINCETOWN, MA — Eight people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation and treatment Thursday night after they were exposed to carbon monoxide.

Provincetown police and firefighters around 6 p.m. answered the report of an unresponsive person on a boat at MacMillan Pier. Inside the boat, they found two people who were not responsive, a police statement said.

The emergency personnel removed the individuals from the boat, and due to the presence of the potentially deadly gas, they and the responders were all transported to the hospital in Hyannis, an hour away.

Because of the number of patients being transported, police reported a mass casualty incident – which allowed Provincetown to obtain extra ambulances from nearby communities including Eastham, Truro and Wellfleet.

Officials did not immediately respond to inquiries about the names and conditions of the individuals.
