Abandoned Homeless Camp Removed From Cape Cod Baseball Field

The people who made the camp their temporary home are getting help finding indoor housing, officials said.

BARNSTABLE, MA — An abandoned homeless camp was removed from a Hyannis baseball field, and officials are working with the people who used to live there to find indoor housing, officials said.

On Tuesday morning, the Barnstable Police Community lmpact Unit partnered with the Town of Barnstable Department of Public Works to remove an abandoned homeless camp in the area of Lopes Field off of Old Colony Road in Hyannis.

This area is designated as a wetland and several yards of trash were removed and disposed of, officials said.

The Community Impact Unit worked with the former inhabitants to secure housing indoors, officials noted.

"Homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health treatment are major issues and we work tirelessly to find solutions for people in need," they said.
