Bank participates in Habitat Blitz Build

Bank of Cape Cod will be lending its support to the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod as it hosts Blitz Build when a Habitat for Humanity home will come together in just one week.

At a dizzying pace, the homebuilders will transform a lot off Namskaket Road in Orleans into a home for a deserving Cape Cod family. The work taking place the week of Sept. 23 starts with wall raising and finishes with an occupancy permit so the family can move right in.

Crews from the homebuilders association will be working steadily as part of the Blitz Build week, noted Christine Duren, executive director of HBRACC. Bank of Cape Cod will be supplying and donating lunch for the busy crews during the week.

“Our members, and the entire community, are known for their generosity and giving back,” Duren said. “A great example of this generosity and commitment is the Bank of Cape Cod. Without even being approached, the leadership at the bank jumped on board to help. Working two long shifts per day, sacrificing time and money, our members will need fuel and we appreciate what Bank of Cape Cod is providing.”

Vicki Goldsmith, executive director of Habitat on Cape Cod, said the blitz is part of the overall concept of what got the organization started in the first place – neighbor helping neighbor. The completed house will be one among six Habitat is building in the Orleans neighborhood.

“With Habitat there is truly a way for everyone in the community to get involved with helping a neighbor who may simply need a hand up,” Goldsmith said. “One person helps with the planning, another swings a hammer, another provides food for the workers, another writes a check. It is all needed. And together, it becomes a great way to build community at the same time.”

Goldsmith said the blitz will help a couple who both grew up on the Cape and have two young children. She said they are able to purchase a home at an affordable price, so they can stay here and raise their family. She said Habitat is “thrilled” to be partnering with the homebuilders association, and together the two organizations are joining forces with the common goal of creating affordable housing on Cape Cod.

For its part, Bank of Cape Cod will host Olde C Dogs food vending truck at the site during three of the blitz days. Tim Telman, president and CEO of Bank of Cape Cod, said he hoped the food would fuel the workers and provide some needed sustenance.

“What an important effort, to provide affordable housing and to allow young families to stay on the Cape,” said Telman. “At Bank of Cape Cod, we are focused on helping the community prosper, one business at a time, one customer at a time. This effort is all about community and Cape Cod’s well-being.”
