Alleged Bank Robber Sentenced to 1 Year

A West Yarmouth man who robbed the Hyannis Cape Cod Five Savings Bank on Nov. 25.

The man who allegedly robbed Cape Cod Five Savings Bank the day after Thanksgiving will serve one year in Barnstable House of Corrections. 

Adam Jenkins, 22, of 11 Wallis Dr., West Yarmouth was convicted for motor vehicle larceny, larceny, failure to stop for an officer and driving without a license, according to court documents.

According to police, Jenkins' entered the Cape Cod Five Savings Bank in Hyanis on Black Friday with a note stating he had a bomb and demanded money. He was arrested on Monday Nov. 28 after taking police on a stolen car and foot pursuit.

Jenkins received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene, according to police.

Detectives reviewed surveillance video and identified the suspect as Jenkins, police said. Jenkins is well known to BPD officers and has a lengthy criminal history. Barnstable Detective Colin Kelley was able to secure an arrest warrant was issued from the district court charging Jenkins with armed robbery, according to police.

On Monday, Nov. 28 at approximately 1 pm, detectives located Jenkins on Sea Street in Hyannis. Jenkins was driving a stolen Ford van when Detectives attempted to stop him, according to police.

Jenkins refused to stop and led Detectives on short vehicle pursuit before abandoning the van in a Sea Street driveway, according to police.

Jenkins jumped from the van while it was still moving and took off on foot into a wooded area between Sea Street and Scudder Ave in Hyannis, according to police.

During the next five hours, Barnstable Detectives and Patrol Officers tracked Jenkins for several miles through a number of different Hyannis neighborhoods.  In one of the neighborhoods, Jenkins was able to steal a bicycle and elude capture, the press release stated.

At approximately 5:15 pm, Jenkins was seen in the area of Barnstable Road and Winter Street in Hyannis. A foot chase, lasting approximately one hour, ended when Detective John York located Jenkins hiding under a porch of a commercial business on Barnstable Road, according to a press release.
