Aging Sewer Lines Mean Driver Delays In Hyannis
The work will require lane closures and other restrictions over nearly a month, Barnstable officials said.
HYANNIS, MA — Work that’s part of a massive downtown infrastructure project could mean delays for drivers over the next month.
A contractor will begin soil borings along portions of South Street, Old Colony Road, High School Road and Bearse’s Way, the Barnstable Department of Public Works said in a news release Thursday.
The groundwork is expected to take place from April 13 to May 4 and will require temporary changes in traffic flow, including lane closures and roadway narrowing.

The borings require small holes to be drilled in the roadways to assess soil conditions and groundwater elevations, which are critical elements of the project design, the DPW said. Drilling rigs will be onsite, along with traffic control staff.
Like many communities in the Northeast, Hyannis is grappling with aging sewer lines and is trying to replace them.
