Barnstable Coronavirus Rates Decrease, Bucking State Trend

Case counts rose in 205 communities statewide, stayed the same in 44 and decreased in 87,​ including Barnstable.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable was one of just the roughly 26 percent of Massachusetts communities to see their key coronavirus metrics drop since last week, according to the latest Massachusetts Department of Public Health data released Thursday.

Case counts rose in 205 communities statewide, stayed the same in 44 and decreased in 87, including Barnstable.

According to state COVID-19 data, Barnstable averaged 7 cases daily per 100,000 residents, down from last week's rate of 8.1. Over the last two weeks, the town had 44 cases.

The town also saw its positivity test rate drop from 2.68 percent last week to 2.19 percent this week. Statewide, the positivity rate was 2.36 percent, according to state data released Thursday.

The state also reported that Barnstable has 83 percent of its residents fully vaccinated. About 45 percent of Barnstable residents have gotten the booster.
