Barnstable County Sheriff Launches New Youth Academy
The first-ever academy is scheduled in late February when area students are on break. What to know.
News release from Barnstable County Sheriff's Office.
CAPE COD, MA — The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office is accepting student applications for a first-ever winter Youth Academy that will take place at the Harwich Community Center during the February school vacation (Feb. 20 to Feb. 23) from 8:30 to 2:00.
For over 20 years, the BCSO’s Youth Academy has been an esteemed summer program. It has helped hundreds of at-risk youths improve their decision-making through physical, emotional, and intellectual instruction and activities.

In February of 2024, Sheriff Donna D. Buckley and BCSO Youth Programs Director Sgt. Luke Carroll will be offering a condensed version of the academy to students between the ages of 12 and 16.
The 4-day program will focus on self-control, respect, teamwork, integrity, and positive communication. Students will work on their decision-making skills throughout the week.
Students will have fun, get in better shape, and most of all, gain wisdom and inspiration from some of the best community leaders on the Cape. The speakers include Jacob Stapledon from Children’s Cove, and Erin Rindfuss of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Line. Students will also meet K9 partners and learn to dust for fingerprints.
