Barnstable Gets $12 Million Loan For Strawberry Hill Sewer Expansion
The Massachusetts Clean Water Trust Board of Trustees approved over $14 million in grants and loans at a March 6 meeting.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Drivers and residents of Barnstable are, by this point, well aware of the ongoing Strawberry Hill Road sewer expansion project, which has altered traffic patterns in town on a regular basis.
However, the project just received a substantial financial boost in the form of a loan worth over $12 million from the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust.
The Board of Trustees approved $14,457,323 in new low-interest loans and grants at its meeting on March 6, including a loan for the project totaling $12,925,023. It comes with an interest rate of 1.5 percent.

Work is still ongoing this week on the project.
Starting Tuesday through Friday sewer installation is progressing between Route 132 and Statice Lane, town officials said.

Local travel on Phinney’s Lane will be maintained, but access to the Barnstable Natural Resources-Marine & Environmental Affairs (MEA) building will be impacted.
Police-assisted traffic monitoring will be in place as construction equipment will be mobilizing daily. Motorists should expect delays, officials said.
Additional grants for lead service line planning program projects and a school water improvement grant were also approved at the Monday meeting.
