  • On the following days: Wednesday, May 18th, Thursday, May 19th, Friday, May 20th, and Saturday, May 21st at 7:00 pm in the Knight auditorium, the Barnstable High School Music Department will perform  “Cabaret 2011.”  “Cabaret 2011” is a high-energy show featuring the BHS Show Choir singing and dancing, accompanied by a full Jazz Band.  Sponsored by the Barnstable High School Music Department, music includes jazz, musical theater, rock, and pop.  Also featured will be talented vocal soloists and the effusive BHS Strings. Songs such as “Sweet Caroline,”  “Soul Bossa Nova,” “I’ll Stand by You” and many others will be included. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the door.
  • For their spring community service project, the Boys and Girls Track and Field teams at Barnstable High School will host a “Youth Track and Field Meet” on Sunday, May 22, from 12-4pm. The meet will take place at the newly-refurbished Cobb Track at Barnstable High School. Registration will occur on-site beginning 11:30 AM; the entry fee for competitors and spectators is $1. Competitors ages 5-12 are eligible to compete, and non-competitive games and races will be available for younger competitors. Events will include:  high jump, standing or running long jump, shot put or ball throw, 100m run, 400m run, 1 mile run and 50m hurdles.  Great fun should be had by all! 
  • On Monday,  May 23, 2011, Barnstable High School will be hosting a nurse from Barnstable County Public Health Dept who will be provide skin cancer screening using the “Skin Analyzer.”   As we enter the summer “sun season,” the B.H.S. nursing department hopes to help raise awareness in teens of the dangers of tanning beds and to help promote safe sun exposure.  The students will have the opportunity to see any pre- existing sun damage under UV light. It only takes a few seconds for one screening, and we hope many will take advantage of this important opportunity.
  • On Wednesday, May 11th at 8:30 AM in the B2B Television Studio at Barnstable High School, Junior Aaron Kanzer was honored for winning the 2011 Boston Globe’s “Will McDonough Writing Contest.”  The Boston Globe’s “Will McDonough Writing Contest” is a highly competitive contest which is designed to encourage the development of language and writing skills while incorporating the topic of sports and such concepts as leadership, teamwork, respect and perseverance.  Aaron’s winning article was entitled, “Marathon of Hope” and chronicled the extraordinary accomplishments of Terry Fox.
