An update on what's happening at BHS - from record golf outings to merit scholarships.

School News from Barnstable High School:
- Senior golfer, Curtis Collopy, broke the course record at Hyannis Golf Club, shooting a 63. The record was previously held by Michael Boden, Red Raider, Class of 1985. Congratulations Curtis. Curtis will be headed south next year to play for a competitive golf program.
- The National Merit Scholarship Program has recognized six commended scholars at BHS due to academic and exam achievement. These students include: Emma Boudreau, Shannon Cleary, Alexandra Malakhoff, Shayne McKenna, Jasmine Opie, and Luke Starr. Fourteen thousand commended students from around the nation, out of 1.5 million test takers were identified. BHS is proud to call six of them our own.
- Susan West, Diane Russell, and Janel Davis will be attending science instruction professional development at Harvard University, “Using Higher Order Thinking Skills in Biology Instruction”.
- “Back to School Night” was Monday, September 26. Parents continued to support the High Standards for academic Achievement, social climate and co-curricular offerings. Of particular note were efforts to maximizing student achievement and maintain the Healthy Hallways practices.
- Challenge Day will be held October 17 – October 20 for the Class of 2015. BHS is inviting community and business leaders to attend as adult participants, along with BHS parents. Please contact Mr. Nugnes or Mrs. Swindler for details. BHS will continue to ask all students to “Be the Change” they want to see in the world.

The Barnstable High School Drama Club’s Haunted House, Cape Cod’s oldest and scariest Halloween attraction, is back for its 30th year.
